Students of today need to be able to find the information not just recite it. Students need to know who to learn and how to apply the knowledge to solve the problem. Just knowing the information is a lower level thinking skill and the information is available and changing too fast for the student to know all of it.

We've been doing this for a long time. I'm glad to see it receive the validation of support by the state. We knew it had value, but it did not generally come out of the expensive textbooks purchased by our county, so we were conservative in the use of PBL activities.

Problem based learning is a powerful tool to use in school. It will be productive to use with staff and/or students. By working together to solve real life problems, students will develop higher order thinking skills and learn to work cooperatively in a group. Staff can look at problems within a school and work together and find a solution.
